The Voice of Real Estate
Through an evolving Public Policy Statement, the association serves as the Voice of Real Estate and provides resources and insight on public policy and legislation that affects homeowners and the real estate industry.
SAR’s Government and Legislative Affairs Committee is comprised of REALTOR® members and Affiliate business members who focus on helping our members, local non-profits, governments and our community leaders with local legislative concerns arising in their communities that affect the real estate industry and home ownership.
SAR has the ability to utilize Local, State and National Association support to mobilize members and address legislation that has an immediate or future impact on home ownership and the real estate industry and help you stay an informed. Some REALTOR® Party iniatiatives include:

Providing Economic and Housing Statistical reports to local government departments and officials to assist in municipal strategic planning
Coordinating focus groups and work groups to assist town planners and other town officials and departments with consumer education, surveys and member outreach.
Hosting candidate forums to discuss real property issues, community stabilization and SmartGrowth initiatives
Meeting with local and state officials to advocate on behalf of property owners and the real estate industry
Ensuring that "calls for action" at the state and national level are transmitted to REALTOR® members for their actionable support

The purpose of RPAC is clear: voluntary contributions made by REALTORS® are used to help elect candidates who understand and support their interests.
These are not members’ dues; this is money given freely by REALTORS® in recognition of the importance of the political process. The REALTORS® Political Action Committee and other political fundraising are the keys to protecting and promoting the real estate industry.
Through the leadership of SAR’s Community Outreach Committee, local REALTORS® hold service events throughout the year to:
Raise awareness of the benefits and pathways to home ownership
Support local non profit organizations by providing volunteer hours and/or financial support to their events and projects
Coordinate various collection drives to support area food banks, schools, families in need at the holidays, animal shelters and more
Participate in Habitat for Humanity fundraisers, project builds and rehabilitation projects
We continually seek community partners that would benefit from REALTOR® volunteer assistance and support. Please contact us with your community needs!
Grant Assistance for Community and Non-Profit Programs
Southern Adirondack REALTORS®, Inc. (SAR) is your local real estate association connection that may enable your community or local non-profit to access grants offered by the National Association of REALTORS®, Inc. Grants are intended to stimulate home ownership and value, community pride and engagement of residents and businesses.
Placemaking Grants: Placemaking is a way to make your community a better place to live by transforming unused sites and “eyesores” into welcoming destinations accessible to everyone in a community. Placemaking can be undertaken by anyone in a community but what is often needed is someone to take the lead or initiative. Who better to do this than a REALTOR® Association, and its members, as REALTORS® are already engaged in their communities and know the neighborhoods and the properties, and are likely to know where to focus efforts to enhance a place.
Smart Growth Grants: Smart growth is an approach to development that encourages a mix of building types and uses, diverse housing and transportation options, development within existing neighborhoods, and community engagement. The Smart Growth Program offers state and local REALTOR® Associations to way to engage with government officials, community partners and the general public in planning and designing a community’s future.
