Two Local REALTORS Recognized for Donating 1000’s of Volunteer Hours

QUEENSBURY, NY:  The Southern Adirondack REALTORS, Inc. a local nonprofit member organization held its 28th Annual Holiday Gala for members and their guests on Friday, December 11 at the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge in Queensbury.

Top on the program was the presentation of their coveted REALTOR of the Year award which was presented to Eden Whitaker of DeMarsh Real Estate in Glens Falls.  Whitaker, who resides in Gansevoort, had held the post of association president in 2017 and had recently been elected as Treasurer-elect.  She had distinguished herself as a “dynamo with endless energy” for the past 7 years who has in 2017 spearheaded the associations total rework and design of their new interactive website, the hosting of their New Member Programs and chair of their Member Services Committee among others. She was a key figure in the huge fundraising drive to support the Civic Center and ADK Thunder benefit in 2017 that the association undertook raising over $15K among REALTORS and SAR Affiliate business members.  Award emcee Dan Davies noted that Whitaker had “devoted 1000’s of volunteer hours” to the association’s various volunteer committees such as their Education Committee, Affiliate Committee and their Community Outreach efforts to paint and assist with the start up of the Habitat REStore retail shop in Moreau, annual Clean up event at the Double H Ranch and more.  Whitaker also delivered Meals On Wheels as part of the REALTOR’s association 15 years of weekly deliveries to shut ins in the local area.

A special Lifetime Appreciation Award was presented to Willie Bea McDonald, Broker/owner of McDonald Real Estate Professionals in Bolton Landing which she co-owns with husband Frank where they also reside.  McDonald has been a member of the association since the 1970’s and through the decades has, as Davies noted “Probably served in every capacity of officer, volunteer board member and on multiple association and MLS committees”.  McDonald is president of the association’s multiple listing service, the Southern Adirondack Multiple Listing Service currently, and oversaw a three year mission to regionalize the MLS services on this side of upstate NY.  To her credit and the credit of a regional task force, the Southern Adirondack REALTORS, Inc will start a new additional corporation in partnership with the Greater Capital District Association of REALTORS in the spring of 2019.  This partnership will not eliminate either of the local associations who provide hands on services to members, consumers and local non-profit charities but it will provide wider range of business tools for members and a larger marketing base for REALTOR members and consumers for greater marketing and search of homes on the real estate market.  McDonald has chaired the association’s Governance & Bylaw committee for many years in addition to serving on the finance and personnel committees.

Both awards are only presented when viable candidates are nominated and then selected by a special committee comprised of past award recipients.

SAR President, Sean Rogge from Howard Hanna Capital’s Queensbury Office presented both recipients with gifts and a unique crystal award plaque for their achievements in front of the more than 240 in attendance at the festive event which also included NY State Association of REALTORS dignitaries and VIP’s from neighboring local real estate associations from Albany to Plattsburgh, Lake Placid and from St. Lawrence County.
